The Name

Kabisa is a commonly used word in Swahili. Literally translated, it means “without a doubt.” People say it often to each other in East Africa—the way you use “absolutely” when you agree with what you hear or you want to reinforce what someone has said. It is said with enthusiasm. It says “I hear you” to the person you’re talking to.

We picked this word because of what it means and how it is used, and because it tells a bit of our story. It’s a colourful word—bouncing off a page and off your tongue. Swahili is a phonetic language and so it’s pronounced as it is spelled. Easy.
